Kahākūkahi Ocean Academy offers free, outdoor, hands-on programs that weave together ocean safety, Hawaiian cultural practices, and environmental science. Open to K–12 students, ʻohana groups, and youth organizations across Maui County.

Program Features

Hands-On Learning: Ocean safety, kilo (observation), mālama ʻāina, and marine science.

Cultural Connection: Moʻolelo, waʻa traditions, island arts & crafts.

Mental Health Support: Safe post-fire healing space for resilience, identity, and mentorship.

Inclusive and Accessible: ADA-friendly site and trauma-informed staff.

Proven Community Impact: Over 800+ Maui students served from 10+ schools.

Sample Field Trip Overview

Schedule: 9:30 AM–12:00 PM (flexible)

Activities: 2–3 rotating outdoor stations

Capacity: Up to 30 students per visit

Bring: Snacks, reusable water bottle, sunscreen

Cost: FREE for Maui County schools and youth programs. Donations accepted and appreciated.
